You've heard me complain aplenty about commercials I don't like. Well, hold onto your shorts, 'cause here's a series I do like.

Denny's latest ad series tends to tell it like it is. If even that. And, I respect that.

Way back when, Denny's used to offer myriad reasons for eating at their restaurants. Remember when, at Denny's, you could eat for free on your birthday? Remember all those Grand Slam breakfast promos? The Denny's near where I spent my teen years even had a bar and dance floor. No joke.

While the above billboard may be bogus, it wouldn't surprise me if it were real. The latest slogans from Denny's say almost nothing. Let's face it: Denny's is where you eat when nothing is else is open, when you are drunk or hung over, or when you are on a really long road trip and you don't know where to stop to eat in some God forsaken little town. Why complicate that fact with a bunch of smoke and mirrors or a dog and pony show (if that floats your boat)?

Denny's: A good place to sit and eat. That slogan ruled. It said absolutely nada, other than Denny's had some sort of seating, and that they wouldn't kick you out if you ate food there. They don't even say that you have to buy the food from them. This could be, for all intents and purposes, a standard interstate roadside rest area, as far as dining promises go. No matter what your Denny's experience, you couldn't get them for false advertising, now could you?

The latest: Denny's: We're cooking now. Equally impressive if you ask me, although it says more that the the first. Denny's isn't saying they are cooking good food. They aren't even saying that you will not get poisoned eating there. You won't necessarily like it. But, they are cooking as opposed to not cooking. So, if you order eggs, they may or may not be cooked. They may or may not be good. But they do have a cooking device that they may or may not use. And, while they are cooking now, they may not have been cooking before. It just says nothing. There are no promises.

As a non-committal type person, who appreciates truth in advertising, I like Denny's!

Next, could we see:

Denny's: We have restaurants.

Denny's: Some of our cutlery is clean.

Denny's: We have pepper.
