Yesterday, we made the 200+ mile round trip trek to one of my favorite weekend destinations, The Brazos Drive-in, in Granbury, Texas. For the first time ever, we were there not just in time, but early! In fact, we were the first car in, so we got the coveted front and center spot (yes, that is the Brennermobile in the center with its hatch open).
In Southern California, people stayed in their cars at the drive in. In Texas, at least this theatre, everyone sits outside the car in chairs or on blankets. That's for you people who are wondering why all the cars are parked the wrong way.
Also, since I am from California, I call everything a car by default, even if it is a truck. Stupid Californians, I know!
We were so thrilled about being first in, until it dawned on us: it was Sunday night and not many people were coming. So, yeah , we were first of about 20 cars. Woot. The place holds 300+ cars and is usually full on Friday and Saturday.
The people next to us brought with them Golden Chick fried chicken. I said, "Look David, show them your Golden Chick imitation!" He did, and I thought the mom-lady was going to need the heimlich maneuver from laughing. One of these days I am going to post pics of Golden Chick next to David impersonating Golden Chick. It is uncanny! I'm going to keep teasing you with that though, just to keep you checking back.
The first movie was Scooby Doo 2. The sound quality wasn't that great, even for the drive-in. Do the math: Scooby talking with all those "R" noises plus bad sound, plus lame kids' movie. I did get a high score on my cell phone's Bejeweled game though, so yay!
The second movie was The Terminal with Tom Hanks. The sound was good and the movie was funny, and even the kids seemed to like this one better. Funny!
If you are interested in finding a drive-in near you, here's a great resource.
