Today, after five months of trial, the verdict in the Scott Peterson double murder trial was finally announced.

He's guilty of one count of first degree murder and one count of second degree murder, with special circumstances, making a death sentence possible.

As the verdict was to be announced, the large group of onlookers gathered about the Redwood City courthouse steps to hear the proceedings broadcast via a public address system.

Upon hearing the verdicts, the crowd became jubilant. Applause. Cheers. Happiness.

Like a damned holiday.

For what? For whom? For two devastated families?

One family mourns the loss of their daughter, their sister, and their son-in-law. The other, their son, their brother, their daughter-in-law. But no one won today. Two entire families will remember this for the rest of their Christmases.

Do I think he did it? Yeah, I kind of think he did.

But I am not going to clap and cheer about what happened today.
